From Time Out NY: Kode 9 is a central figure in London's dubstep scene, both as a producer-DJ and, equally important, the man behind the Hyperdub label, which has issued not just his own work but also that of Burial. With or without his time-warping vocal partner Spaceape, Kode 9 and his future-dread sounds are not to be missed. Dub War's Dave Q and Joe Nice also drop some beats, MC Juakali is on the mike, and Forward Motion Theater provides the visuals.

South London's Kode9 returns to NYC after a long, worldwide jaunt, hitting the decks for for the Winter Garden's first dance party. His DJ sets span a range of bass-heavy sounds, from dancehall and hip-hop to reggae, dubstep, and grime. Besides DJing and producing, Kode9 also runs the Hyperdub label, whose recent releases fill out dubstep's deep bass and syncopated percussion with wonky midrange synths, vocoded melodies, and 8-bit chirps. He's joined tonight by Dub War party hosts Dave Q and MC Juakali, the duo that introduced the London sound stateside. Local multimedia collective Forward Motion Theater provides the visual stimulation.
