Al-Jazeera Pesto
In honor of Egypt’s Revolution
Feb 4, 2011 - ‘The Day of Departure”
Recipe:
Combine the following in a Cuisinart or blender, with Al-Jazeera blaring in the background:
Olive oil (Italian and Greek; as needed for consistency)
2 cloves garlic (or more, to taste)
1 large purple shallot
Bunch fresh basil
Handful baby spinach
Za’atar green (Lebanese or Israeli, to taste)
Aleppo Halaby (Syrian, to taste)
Sea salt (French, to taste)
Voila: a thoroughly contemporary democratic pesto :-)
