Your only chance to get a sneak peek at the entire show.

Benefit Sale - ONE DAY ONLY!
Saturday, January 10, 2009 from 11:00 - 6:00

Over 1500 original postcard-size works of art.
$75 EACH. Buy 4 cards and get 1 free!

Postcards From the Edge is a show and sale of original, postcard-sized artworks on paper by established and emerging artists. All artworks are $75 and sold on a first-come, first-served basis. The works are signed on the back and exhibited so that the artists' signatures cannot be seen. While buyers have a list of all participating artists, they don't know who created which piece until it is purchased and the signature is revealed. A collector might end up with a work by a famous artist or one they don't yet know. Either way, they walk away with a great piece of art while supporting the important work of Visual AIDS.

Attention
Artists!

We are looking for artists to donate a 4" x 6" original work on paper for the exhibition and sale. Painting, drawing, photography, printmaking and mixed media are all welcome.  If you would like to participate in Postcards From the Edge click here for submission forms.  DEADLINE: Wednesday, December 10, 2008

NOW, forthcoming journal (APLA) Seeking Submissions

Apla_logo

Announcing: NOW, edited by Cheryl Clark (Poet, Activist and Scholar) and Steven G. Fullwood (Director, Black Gay and Lesbian Archive, Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture)

NOW, a forthcoming journal from Aids Project Los Angeles (APLA), is seeking submissions from writers and artists who envision new and insightful ways to talk about the black queer bodies, women's health, the house ball scene in relationship to HIV/AIDS, and the impact of HIV/AIDS on cultural production in the black LGBT community for the last 25 years.

The editors are interested in submissions that re-imagine and rethink ways in which the scourge of HIV/AIDS affects gays, lesbians, as well as bisexuals and trans men and women. Instead of prescriptive pieces that are either redemptive or morally structured in tone and thrust, the editors want submissions that enter the conversation of disease and illness in thoughtful, non-judgmental, and provocative ways.

The editors want to continue in the tradition that APLA, who along with the New York State Black Gay Network, produced two ground-breaking journals, Think Again (eds. Colin Robinson and Steven G. Fullwood) and If We Have to Take Tomorrow (eds. Frank Leon Roberts and Marvin K. White). Those anthologies featured works about black gay men and HIV risk, and highlighted the complexity of black men's lives at the intersection of critical and creative cultural production. We wish to create a journal that will enlighten and encourage readers to think again about the past, present, and future of this pandemic. If you have a story to tell, images to share, or a voice that wants to be heard, we welcome your submission.

NOW seeks writing in the following forms: fiction, non-fiction, short stories, essays, articles, interviews, poetry; and graphic art (B&W photographs, art work) to populate its pages. See below for specific guidelines for submitting work.

We wish to acknowledge that the Diaspora writes and speaks in a variety of languages; however, we welcome English translations of your work.

Print-run: 10,000

This publication will be distributed nationally to health service agencies, community centers, public health officials, educational institutions, churches, clubs and bars, and other grassroots organizations.

Fiction, nonfiction, short stories, essays, articles and interviews ˆ no more than 1,200-1,500. Poems can be from 3-5 stanzas, or shorter length pieces preferable.

Graphic art
Please send B&W low-rez jpegs of your work for review. If selected we will require the following:&W (Hi-Rez 300 DPI X 11inches longest dimension, height or width) of photographs and graphic art which may submitted via email or by CD-ROM.

Deadline for submissions ˆ July 31, 2007

Please send work pasted into the body of an e-mail which includes

Your name, title of work, type of work (essay, article, poem, visual art, etc.), length in words, email address; and a biographical sketch (50 words or less) and photograph of writer/artist.
