Picture Takers is a group show featuring artwork made from or inspired by vernacular photography. Using pictures taken by others, the ten artists in this exhibition create new narratives that explore ideas about history, memory and identity. Some find photographs in historical archives, flea markets and antique stores; others mine the vast field of stock photographic images available online. Several of the artists rely on news, social media and photo-sharing websites for their subjects. By utilizing a wide range of sources, they examine our consumption of photography and our evolving relationship to the photographic image.
The exhibition showcases an international group of artists working in a variety of mediums, including painting, sculpture, prints, drawings and video.
