As Goldwater Library rituals go, this might just be the most longstanding: the summer August closure. When the Goldwater Library first opened to the public here in the Metropolitan Museum in 1982, the Watson Library already had in place the August closure -- a chance for the otherwise nose-to-the-grindstone librarians to get away from it all and see the world (along with all those other August vacationers). Changes in the nature of the workplace, access to library information, and the year-round mass availability of airline travel have given the August closure a certain quaint fustiness.
But tradition is tradition, and so we will observe the following openings and closures:

Staff hours remain unchanged during the summer. Please bear in mind that the library may be understaffed at various points during the summer.
