High Crimes + Misdemeanors: A.R.T. Hits Congress

HIGH CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS - WE WILL NOT BE SILENT

Multiple actions occurred in the early afternoon today inside the Hart Senate Office Building. Eight New York
activists were among the 15 plus arrested.

TODAY, APRIL 26, 2007, A.R.T.* OCCUPIED THE HALLS OF CONGRESS IN A DRAMATIC TWO-PART ACTION.

First, in a massive distribution, A.R.T. hand-delivered a 20-page tabloid petition to every representative. It contained documentary evidence for indictments, literally putting impeachment back on the table.

Then, at 1PM, in a spectacular visual feat, A.R.T displayed the full text of Article II, Section 4 to the Senate as a 30-foot banner drop in the Hart Office Building atrium. A second 30-foot banner read "YOUR SILENCE YOUR LEGACY". Organizers said, "We must magnify the refusal of Congress to uphold the Constitution. Their silence equals complicity in the flagrant crimes of this administration."

"Unlocked" at the Tribeca Film Festival

NEWSgrist pal and budding director/film maker Daryl Wein has a new short film being screened at the Tribeca Film Festival. He will be present along with some of the other filmmakers at each screening for a brief Q&A.

Synopsis
Unlocked is the story of a teenager, Abby, coping with her mother's terminal illness. When a charming man soliciting for cancer research stops her on the street, she sees in him someone who has shared her experience. He asks her to donate her hair and she believes she is doing a good deed. But no good deed goes unpunished--and Abby is forced to wonder if she deserves the punishment. Her decision to get into his van changes her life. This film explores the consequences of guilt and the life altering effects it has on a young adult.

OLIVIA THIRLBY (Abby) starred in Vincent Perez' The Secret opposite David Duckovny and Lili Taylor in 2005, and appeared in the film United 93, directed by Paul Greengrass in 2006. Her upcoming films include Margaret, directed by Kenneth Lonergan (You Can Count on Me) and Snow Angles directed by David Gordon Green (All the Real Girls). She guest starred on the NBC television show, Kidnapped, with Timothy Hutton and Delroy Lindo, and is set for production in Jack and Diane with Ellen Page in 2007.

DANIEL SAULI (Jerry) was last seen in Paul Greengrass' United 93. He has appeared in The Pink Panther with Steve Martin and Kevin Klein, and starred in Brooklyn Lobster opposite Danny Aiello. His television credits include Law and Order: Criminal Intent and Sex and the City.

Rogue Government Agency Jumps the Gun On New Climate Regs
The recent Supreme Court decision requiring the Federal Government to regulate tailpipe emissions as a pollutant has been widely hailed by environmentalists.  While the EPA is not expected to move on the new mandate for months, one branch of the government, the obscure Oil Enforcement Agency, seems to have jumped the gun.  They've begun ticketing low-MPG cars and trucks, pressuring dealerships, even impounding vehicles that don't meet agency standards, as they did recently at the New York Auto Show...
