Nearly three decades since the onset of the AIDS epidemic in the United States, Black men who have sex with men (MSM) have represented a significantly disproportionate number of cases of HIV and AIDS. A key element in addressing HIV-related health disparities for Black gay men relates to the development of theoretical frameworks that are grounded within culturally relevant conceptualizations. Within this context, the objective of this seminar series is to better understand the role of stigma, marginalization, and structural inequalities in Black gay men's communities, which provide a theoretical framework to examine the complexities of the AIDS epidemic, as situated in the everyday, lived experiences of Black gay men.
Co-Sponsored by the National Black Gay Men's Advocacy Coalition (NBMAC), New York State Black Gay Network (NYSBGN), and the Black Gay Research Group (BGRG)
Seminars in the City is supported by the New York Council for the Humanities.
